Pine Mountain Club Property Owners Association offers a wide variety of activities and events for the membership and guests to enjoy. Here’s what’s going on this month.

Senior Game Day/Aging Task Force

The “Aging in Place Task Force” will meet at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28. Senior Game Day will take place on Sunday, May 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Both take place in the Pool Pavilion.

Group Hike Planned May 13

A group fitness hike is planned May 13. Just meet in the Clubhouse parking lot at 8 a.m. There is a $5 fee for those without fitness card passes.

PMC Has Active Sierra Club Group

Pine Mountain Club has an active chapter of The Sierra Club called “The Condor Group” that meets regularly during warmer months for presentations with potluck meals and hikes. This month, Vicky Kraft will give a presentation on Bear Sense and Prevention at 7 p.m. on May 5. Bear season is here. Tales of our local bears and wildlife, both humorous and serious, are Vicky’s forte. We live in a forest habitat with bears and other wildlife. What are bears attracted to? How do you keep them out of your car and your house, and what do you need to do to be bear safe? All are welcome, and the meeting is free. The gathering is in the Pool Pavilion at the PMC Clubhouse. For details, call Liz Buchroeder at 242-0619.

Treat Mom to Brunch

A Mother’s Day Brunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 14 in honor of Mom on her special day. It’s an all-you-can-eat Brunch Buffet that includes: Build your own Omelet Station, Carving Station with Roast beef and Poached Salmon, Eggs Bacon, Sausage, French Toast, and More!!  Kids’ Buffet includes Macaroni & Cheese, Chicken Tenders and Pancakes.  There will also be a variety of Beverages and Desserts. Cost is $24.99 for adults, $9.99 kids and 3 & under are free. Make your reservations ASAP at the front desk at the clubhouse or call 661-242-3788.

Memorial Day Breakfast/Brunch

In keeping with PMC’s three-day weekend tradition, the Bistro will present a Memorial Day Breakfast/Brunch on Sunday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Condor Lounge. Come enjoy the delicious food!

Cinco de Mayo Buffet

Join the party on Friday, May 5 at the Cinco de Mayo Buffet in the Condor Room and Lounge from 5 to 9 p.m. Mexican food will be featured, along with drink specials all evening long. Ole!

Lilac Festival Blooms in May

The 35th annual Lilac Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 20-21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. This PMC tradition features skydivers, yummy food, live music and shows, kids’ amusements, a quilt show and of course a hometown parade at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Concerts on the Greens Kicking Off

The first Concert on the Greens of the season happens on Saturday, May 27 featuring vintage rock ‘n’ roll band “Lil’ Elmo and the Cosmos.” Future concerts are as follows:

Fire Department Bringing Wildfire Expo to PMC

The Kern County Fire Department is presenting a Wildfire Expo in Pine Mountain Club on Saturday, May 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kern County Fire Station 58. Fire Department officials will talk to Mountain Communities residents about new hazard reduction guidelines, show wildland firefighting equipment and seasonal crews will talk about completed projects in their area. Movie Screening in Condor Room

Movie Night in the Condor Room continues on Friday, May 26 this month and is fun for viewers of all ages! This month’s movie, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” will screen at 7 p.m., with candy and drinks available for purchase. Children under the age of 12 must have adult supervision.

PMC Pool Opens May 26

Summertime’s favorite hangout opens for the season on Friday, May 26 at 8 a.m. Lap Swim takes place from 8 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m., with open swim the rest of the day.

Community Picnics in the Park Start 6/1

The Thursday “Picnics in the Park” at Lampkin Park will resume on June 1st and continue through the summer until the weather turns cold. Picnics start at 5:00 p.m. Bring a meat to cook if you wish, a dish to share and your own drinks and table service. Come out and enjoy the great food and visiting with your friends and neighbors.

PMC Fitness Program Offers Something for Everyone

PMC’s fitness program has a wide variety of offerings. Tai Chi is offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and Gentle Stretch/Yoga continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Newer classes are as follows: On Mondays, Zumba is offered from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by Weights from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Cardio Dance & Tone is offered from 8 to 9 a.m. On Wednesdays, Drum Fitness is offered from 8 to ­8:45 a.m., followed by Body Works from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Thursdays, Zumba is offered again from 8 to 9 a.m. On Fridays, Resistance Bands & Core Training is offered from 8 to 9 a.m. For pricing, check with the office. On Saturdays, fitness moves outside with group activities as scheduled.

Mahjong Club

The PMC Mahjong Club meets in the Pool Pavilion at 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday (and sometimes meets in the Condor Lounge). Come have some fun playing Mahjong with friends.

Bridge Club Meets Mondays, Thursdays

The PMC Bridge Club meets every Monday and Thursday from 12:45 to 4 p.m. in the Condor Room or Lounge. Serious card players and less-than-serious are welcome. This is a club you don’t need to join; just show up and play.

Amateur Radio Club Meets Monthly

The PMC Amateur Radio Club meets on the third Friday of the month from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Pool Pavilion. All are welcome to attend. For more information, please contact Karen Butler at 242-2211.

Archery Club Hosts Quarterly Tournaments

The PMC Archery Club is going strong with about 60 members, and welcomes newcomers. Dues are $15 per year for one person, and $20 per year for a family. This helps to cover insurance and new straw bales. The archery range is behind the Fourth green, behind Fern’s Lake. It is open to all members any day, from 7 a.m. to dark. You must be a paid member and sign the waiver to use the range. There are four tournaments a year, (one each quarter), and the targets are varied. Tournaments are $5 each. Lessons are available for beginners, but the club does not provide the equipment for lessons. For more information, call Brent Bennet at 661-242-2704.

Homework Club Ongoing Through School Year

Join in the fun of getting your homework done! Homework Club is every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the PMC Recreation Room. Homework Club is free. Any donation of pencils, paper or other supplies is welcome! There is no Homework Club on snow days or school holidays. The Rec Room now reopens from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays after Homework Club is over.

Get Creative in the Rec Room

Arts and Crafts Day is held every Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. in the Rec Room. Come get creative with your friends!

Tenant/Lessee/Guest Membership Cards Required in Clubhouse

Notice to Members/Tenants/Lessees: Membership cards are required to receive services at all Clubhouse facilities. The Association uses the swipe card system to track member versus non-member revenue. Tenants/lessees/guests need to be registered with the clubhouse by the property owner for guest cards. Cards can be ordered by the property owner through the Business Office and are free with submission of previous membership cards. If you do not have your previous cards, there is a $2 fee. For questions or to pick up the tenant/lessee/guest forms, please call the office at 242-3788.
